WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 (Xinhua reporter Wang Wei Yang, Riverside) U.S. Defense Department official said Tuesday, Obama announced The first deployment of additional troops to Afghanistan, 1.6 million people have been notified to prepare seed money.
Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman said at a news conference that about 1,500 Marines to Afghanistan later this month, but he did not disclose the specific time. Earlier, the U.S. media quoted military sources said the first batch of additional team will arrive in the 25th. After 1 January next year, and another 7,000 Marines will arrive.
Whitman also said that the army of the first from the 10th Mountain Division were deployed to Afghanistan to 3400, responsible for training local security forces, there are about 4100 people from all parts of the auxiliary forces in the next year deployed before the spring.
Obama announced last week, 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, focused on deployment in the violence-prone southern and eastern regions. He also urged NATO allies to send more troops in Afghanistan, the focus in the northern and western regions. Later, Defense Secretary Robert Gates issued an immediate deployment of additional troops of the first order.
