Q: Please brief us on Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa calls the situation. How does China view the current Middle East situation?

A: Yesterday, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa calls on China-Arab relations and exchanged views on the current Middle East situation.

China is very concerned about the current Middle East situation, advocates respect for national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, based on dialogue and other peaceful means to resolve conflicts, prevent the situation from further deterioration caused more casualties. We believe that the Arab countries, wisdom and ability to restore stability and development in the hope that the Arab League in dealing with world affairs continue to play an active and constructive role.

Q: It is reported that China and Vietnam disputes often occur at sea. How will China deal with such disputes?

A: China’s Nansha Islands and adjacent waters has indisputable sovereignty. Our commitment to properly handle through dialogue and negotiation and resolution of the South China Sea dispute, together with relevant countries to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

in the South China Sea issue, the Chinese Government has taken a highly responsible attitude and maintain a great restraint, and to put forward a constructive attitude “shelving disputes and seeking common development” idea. We hope that in accordance with recognized international law and modern law of the sea, including the “United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea,” established the basic principles and legal system, through bilateral consultations with countries concerned to peacefully resolve the dispute.

Q: China stressed the need to strengthen mutual trust with neighboring countries. But recently, Japan, the Philippines and other countries are territorial disputes with China made representations. How does China view the current situation in the South China Sea?

A: I have just mentioned, the essence of the South China Sea in waters near the Nansha Islands and its sovereignty and rights issues, there was no controversy in other areas.

We have always advocated and is committed to equality with the countries concerned through bilateral friendly consultations and negotiations to resolve differences and disputes through peaceful means. We also actively advocate “shelving disputes and seeking common development”, which is the strategic choice of China’s peaceful development. This position is clear. Any country in relation to national sovereignty and territorial integrity and other major issues, will take clear and firm stand. In addressing these issues, China has showed great sincerity and patience.

Q: According to South Korean media reports, senior Chinese officials during the visit to the DPRK, the DPRK side has informed the case of North Korea uranium enrichment program. But China had been said that the DPRK uranium enrichment program has not yet been confirmed. What is your comment?

A: China has expressed concern about North Korean uranium enrichment issue. We believe that North Korea to exercise the right to peaceful use of nuclear energy should comply with international norms. This issue should be included in the six-party talks and the denuclearization of the Peninsula in the discussion, to be properly handled through dialogue and consultation.

Q: Some countries are in Libya by the UN Security Council set up a “no-fly zone” in the resolution. What’s China’s position?

A: The international community should implement Security Council resolution No. 1970, urged the parties to resolve disputes through peaceful means, to calm the situation.
