PR Newswire Web site, according to January 5, 2010 reported that U.S. Army tanks and motor vehicle bureau has awarded General weapons Dynamics Land Systems a contract worth $ 198 million for Iraq’s production of 140 M1A1 tanks enhanced situational awareness.
enhanced situational awareness, including M1A1 main battle tanks, the second generation forward looking infrared device (FLIR), tank urban survivability kits (TUSK) and enhanced thermal observation device drivers, etc., can provide better battlefield protection. In addition, M1A1 tanks will be equipped with tank engine life extension program (TIGER) project to upgrade the engine, equipped with pulse jet systems and health prediction and diagnosis of embedded components to improve tank performance, while reducing maintenance costs.
